You’ve probably heard much about the dark side of chocolate. But did you know that chocolate actually packs some nifty health benefits?

Here are three chocolate health benefits to consider.

Cholesterol

Dark chocolate has been shown to lower LDL (bad cholesterol) in men. It also increases HDL (good cholesterol) and can help with insulin resistance, say the studies.

Brain Function

Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate? Great! Two cups a day may “help keep the brain healthy and reduce memory decline in older people,” according to scientists at Harvard Medical School.

Cancer

According to Melissa Gaskill at CURE (Cancer Updates, Research & Education), “studies show that eating chocolate may help reduce intestinal illnesses, including colon cancer, and could lower blood pressure and reduce inflammation, which may also protect against other types of cancer.”

Of course, too much of a good thing can also lead to undesired effects, and chocolate is no exception. So, make sure to speak to your doctor before adding chocolate to your diet. And see just how much might be good for you based on your unique health conditions.
