Do you swim?
You should. Here’s why.
“Swimming is normal for me. I’m relaxed. I’m comfortable, and I know my surroundings. It’s my home. ” – Michael Phelps
Benefits
Swimming has many benefits, especially as you age. So swimming for seniors might actually be more beneficial than swimming for younger folks.
Here are a few benefits:
- Less falls – In an Australian study comparing different exercises and falling among 70-year-old men, over a 4-year-period, swimmers were 33% less likely to fall than all others.
- Chronic conditions – Water makes it possible to exercise for longer without feeling pain. Water therapy can, therefore, sooth pain from chronic conditions, like arthritis and circulatory issues.
- Weight – Although swimming stimulates your appetite, in time it can make you lose weight, thanks to its cardiovascular advantages and the extra strength it’ll give you for other exercises.
- Relaxation – Swimming can be a great way to relieve stress and feel relaxed. Try it, you’ll see.
