The sound of rain plummeting on concrete outside can arouse many emotions.
Let’s explore a few of them from a deeper point of view.
Rain one Occurrence Many Experiences
Ugh, Rain
For many the first emotion that comes to mind is, unfortunately, disappointment. It means getting wet, extra preparations, or changing plans. Yeah, the rain serves a purpose in the world, but, for the most part, it gets in the way.
It may be helpful to take a step back and appreciate the blessing of rain. No doubt, it isn’t always easy to deal with, but did you know that there are countries where people await rain with lots of anticipation?
So this view actually comes from a place of prosperity. If you can resent rain, you’re probably getting many basic needs met without noticing. And you also have plans and places to go. Now that’s something to be grateful for!
Yay, Rain!
But for others it’s excitement and enjoyment. It’s an opportunity to get wet. Just think back to when you were a kid, all those puddles and the boots.
This view is super focused on the present moment. Getting wet means you’ll need to change your cloths, hang them to dry, take care of yourself not to get sick. But that’s later and all that matters in now.
This outlook comes from a great ability to live the moment without worrying too much or getting overstressed about the past and future. No wonder it’s mainly children who embody this.
But just because it doesn’t come natural to everyone else doesn’t mean we can’t cultivate it in ourselves. This is something we can learn from youngsters. Not that we have to get soaked or love changing our plans, but we can learn to live life as it happens more.
Ah, Rain
And for others it’s all about relaxation, safety, and calmness. It’s that feeling that you get when you notice how warm and comfortable you are indoors while everything outside gets soaked.
But what’s interesting about this last category is how the rain just reinforces the experience of what you already had all along. Sometimes it takes an external occurrence to validate our reality so that we can feel it in a different way.
Who knew that rain can teach us so much?
What does rain do for you?
