It’s summer and it’s hot in New Jersey. Coping with heat and humidity isn’t always easy. There’s the sun, the sweltering humidity and longer hours outdoors.
While you can always cool off indoors at Wellington Estates’ cool and luxurious facilities, you may want to spend some time out and enjoy yourself.
If you do decide to spend time outdoors and would like to stay cool in the sun, here are a few tips to keep you cool and hydrated.
Plan Properly
Certain times of the day are hotter than others and you may want to avoid the sun during these times. The American Cancer Society suggests avoiding the sun between 10 am and 4 pm.
Some days are also hotter than others. Get the weather forecast in advance and plan accordingly. You’ll want to spend the hotter days inside.
Whether you follow these suggestions or not, make sure to take care of yourself as necessary whenever you’re out in the heat. If you start feeling hot or uncomfortable, try to find a shady spot, sit down drink and asses if it’s time to get back indoors.
Wear Protective Clothing
What you wear can go a long way keeping you safe and cool. While you may be inclined to opt for clothing that leaves you more exposed, this may actually be a mistake because that means more direct exposure to the sun, so your body will heat up quicker.
Ultraviolet (UV) rays aside, a better option may be to put on something with a light color. This will protect your skin and repel the sunlight. Cotton clothing may be a good choice. They tend to be lightweight and provide good air circulation.
