Celebrating Life's Stories - National Skilled Nursing Care Week

As an assisted living facility, Wellington Estates recognizes the contribution of skilled nursing care centers across the country. We, therefore, dedicate this post to outline the origin and intention of this momentous week at skilled nursing care centers around the country.

The Origin of National Skilled Nursing Care Week

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) helped establish National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) in 1967. At that time, though, the official name was National Nursing Home Week. Since then, each year, starting on Mother’s Day, America has been commemorating the wonderful facilities that tend to our seniors and disabled.

National Skilled Nursing Care Week Themes

Each year, the week revolves around a theme. The theme sets the tone for the focus of the week. This year’s theme is Celebrating Life’s Stories. The intention is to create “a shared sense of purpose in our centers and within the surrounding communities.”

According to the AHCA, listening to the unique life stories of others, helps us and them alike. We get to understand them better in addition to helping us with our personal growth,1

So, in spirit of this year’s theme, we encourage everyone to share their life stories and become better listeners!

What can you do to become a better listener?
