Assisted living communities serve individuals who typically need help with everyday activities and some health care services but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care services for extended periods of time. These communities offer a unique mix of companionship, independence, privacy, and security in a home-like setting. National Assisted Living Week encourages assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to educate the public about this aspect of long-term care.
