“When anger rises, think of the consequences.”
– Confucius
Do you ever get angry?
Anger is one of those things that so many people deal with, yet don’t want to. But, usually, not wanting to get angry isn’t enough to hold us back next time things push our buttons.
Anger, like many other bad habits or traits, requires work, but knowledge can also be helpful. If you knew that anger was terrible for your health, for example, there’s a good chance that you’ll become less angry over time.
3 Ways Anger Affects Your Health
So, here’s 3 health reasons to help you manage anger better and see it for what it is.
Anger and Blood Pressure
Anger may not directly cause high blood pressure, but the two may still be related by stress. According to the Mayo Clinic, “stressful situations can cause your blood pressure to spike temporarily,” and maybe even for the long-term.
Poor Judgment
Have you ever looked back at something you said when you were angry and wish you wouldn’t have made the remark? That’s not uncommon. The fact is that in hindsight it was illogical and may have made things worse, but in the heat of the moment you did not have the same capacity to think things through logically.
Social Implications
Who do enjoy spending more time with, people who speak about positive stuff, or those who tell you about their resentment, all the time? Pretty simple, huh? The same is true the other way around; people enjoy you company more, when you’re in a better mood.
Sure, a good friend will listen and be there for you even when you’re feeling upset or hurt (like our nurses at Wellington Estates, for example), but if it becomes a habit and that’s all they hear, it can be tough. So, although you shouldn’t bear your feelings in loneliness, you may want to gain more control over your anger levels and expression.
Anger is tough to drop and, sometimes it may even be necessary to express, but too much of it can be harmful to your health. These 3 health reasons may be the push you need to kick this habit.
